Viewfield Terrace,

Dunfermline

These internal alternations, to a beautiful Victorian, semi-detached house in a leafy part of Scotland’s ancient capital, combined a separate dining room and kitchen into a more effective, bright, open-plan family living space.

A modern kitchen with a central island has been installed to create additional work surface and improve circulation to the larder and patio doors.

The original character of house has been retained by retaining and repairing ornate plaster cornice in the kitchen to match the existing and by reusing the original exposed timber floorboards to match the rest of the ground floor.

Energy efficiency and warmth have been improved by replacing poor-quality, double-glazed, uPVC windows and door with high-performance, triple-glazed timber units. Draughts are reduced by insulating beneath the floor and behind the skirting boards with sheepswool insulation.
