Keeper’s Cottage,

Fife

Set on a sloping, west-facing site on the edge of Dunfermline, this new three bedroom house will be partially raised above the ground on a steel substructure, giving it a feeling of lightness.

Similar to other projects that we have designed, the house is linked to a separate garage, helping to create a sheltered and welcoming entrance courtyard.

A simple palette of materials, including locally-sourced untreated larch cladding, standing seam metal roofing and dry stone walling reflect its rural, semi-agricultural setting.

A highly insulated, draughtproof timber frame, together with solar gains from the triple-glazed south and west-facing windows, will help to reduce the need for heating from the wood burning stove and solar thermal panels.

The house was completed and occupied in 2018.
