Glascairn Community Project,
Culbokie, Black Isle
Won through competitive tender and working as part of a team led by Urban Animation and including Athena Solutions and Aigas Associates, this feasibility study explored the opportunities for a site in Culbokie that offered a chance for the village to create a proper centre.
Although an old settlement, Culbokie has in recent years become a dormitory town for those who commute to Inverness for work, and has seen a corresponding decline in local services.
The feasibility study built on work by Culbokie Community Trust Ltd to identify the residents’ most pressing needs, developing design options through a series of community consultations and then putting together a final set of proposals and comprehensive business plan for the agreed project.
The Trust have successfully obtained consent from the community to apply to purchase the piece of land and have applied for funding through the Community Right to Buy scheme and Scottish Land Fund.
