Ferndown Passivhaus,

Aberdeenshire

(In collaboration with Locate Architects)

Ferndown is a new Passivhaus in a beautiful rural part of Aberdeenshire.

The new house, which replaces an un-upgradeable 1980s bungalow, will have a very simple form to minimise heat loss and, together with a detached garage, will form an enclosed entrance courtyard typical of surrounding farmhouses and outbuildings.

External materials are simple too: vertical timber cladding to shed rain quickly and avoid ledges for leaves to accumulate; lime-pointed granite cladding around the entrance to the house and standing seam metal roofing across both the house and garage.

We’re really pleased that this achieved Passivhaus certification in November 2018.
